Cursor has reportedly surpassed $2B in annualized revenue

The AI coding assistant Cursor has recently surpassed $2 billion in annualized revenue, according to a Bloomberg source. This milestone comes as the four-year-old startup’s revenue run rate reportedly doubled over the last three months. The disclosure of these financials seems timed to address a rising tide of skepticism within the tech community. In recent days, viral tweets have questioned Cursor’s momentum, particularly in the wake of several high-profile developers migrating to other coding assistants such as Anthropic’s Claude Code.
Competition and Shifting Customer Base
Cursor, founded in 2022, initially focused its efforts on selling software to individual developers. Over the past year, however, the company shifted its strategy toward securing large corporate customers. These larger clients now account for roughly 60% of Cursor’s revenue, according to Bloomberg. This transition is significant, as it likely provides a more stable revenue base even if individual developers move to competitor tools like Claude Code, which is perceived as more competitively priced. In fact, while some smaller clients have left Cursor for other solutions, the company seems to be retaining its higher-spending enterprise customers who are more likely to remain for longer periods.
Rapid Growth Amid Intense Market Rivalry
The market for AI-assisted software development has attracted intense competition. Besides Claude Code, OpenAI’s tool Codex is fighting for market share, along with other emerging startups such as Replit, Cognition, and Lovable. Cursor, last valued at $29.3 billion during a $2.3 billion funding round co-led by Accel and Coatue in November, is among the best-financed players in this rapidly growing sector. When asked for comment regarding its business momentum, Cursor did not respond immediately.
The interest in AI coding assistants is reflected in the industry’s event circuit. TechCrunch’s DISRUPT 2026 event promises to unite more than 10,000 founders, investors, and tech leaders for three days of tactical discussions, groundbreaking introductions, and innovation. For those seeking additional opportunities, the TechCrunch Founder Summit 2026 will bring together more than 1,000 founders and investors for a full day focused on actionable strategies for growth and scaling. These events offer unique networking opportunities and practical insights for attendees. Discounts for both events are available until March 13, with registrations open for October 13-15, 2026, in San Francisco.
