Door locks on a purple and yellow graphic. ImageA smart lock is an easy solution to some common problems. Locked yourself out? Need to let a friend in to water the plants? Your latchkey kid lost their key? Hands are full, and it’s raining cats and dogs? A smart lock solves all of these problems and more.

One of the best smart home upgrades you can make, a smart lock gives you remote control access to your house from anywhere, plus easy, key-free ways to unlock and lock your door. Smart locks also remember everything that happened, so they can tell you when your door was unlocked, and sometimes who did it.

Avantazhet e Smart Locks dhe Përzgjedhja më e Mirë

For most people, control and convenience are big enough selling points. However, smart locks also work nicely with other smart home devices, including video doorbells and smart lighting. My favorite way to integrate locks in my home is with an evening smart home routine, which locks the doors, dims the lights, and sets my thermostat to sleep mode. We have four exterior doors, so it saves me from walking around the house at night checking everything is secure.

Having a connected lock on your door is as secure as a standard lock, and sometimes more. Most smart locks have the same security ratings as their non-smart counterparts (see FAQ for more details), and it’s harder to physically pick a lock without a keyway. Plus, any smart lock is more secure than leaving a spare key under a flowerpot.

During six years of testing smart locks and after installing more than 30 for this guide alone, I have selected my top picks for your front door. Whether you want the best of the best, don’t want to replace your existing lock, are on a budget, or want a smart lock that doesn’t look like a smart lock, there are great options for every need.

Smart Locks më të Mira për Nevoja të Ndryshme

BEST SMART LOCK: KWIKSET HALO SELECT
The Kwikset Halo Select is a good-looking, reliable smart lock with top-notch security ratings, broad smart home compatibility, and the best auto-unlock function I’ve tested. Its design evolves to fit both traditional and contemporary doors, though it does feature prominent Kwikset branding.
Of its four entry methods (keyway, touchscreen keypad, app/smart control, auto-unlock by location), the auto-unlock is the best. This feature has been flawless, making entry to the house nearly hands-free. Auto-locking is also based on your location, not just timers.
The lock supports both built-in Wi-Fi and Matter-over-Thread, but you must select one. Using Wi-Fi gives you integration with the Kwikset app and cloud platforms, while Matter enables local connections with major smart home assistants. Matter also promises better battery life and widespread ecosystem sharing. Read full review.

BEST BUDGET SMART(ISH) LOCK: WYZE LOCK BOLT
The Wyze Lock Bolt delivers fast fingerprint access, a simple backlit keypad, and over a year of battery on Bluetooth only. It lacks Wi-Fi and smart home integrations out of the box but still allows you to generate and share offline access codes. You cannot check its status remotely, so you should enable auto-lock for peace of mind. If paired with Wyze Video Doorbell Pro, remote unlocking is possible. More details here.

BEST RETROFIT SMART LOCK: NUKI SMART LOCK
The Nuki Smart Lock is compact and fast, simple to install, and supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Matter-over-Thread for broad compatibility. It does not require user-account registration, which is uncommon. There are optional accessories such as a keypad (PIN and fingerprint), but the fingerprint version is not backlit and may be harder to use at night. The battery is rechargeable and internal, claimed to last up to 10 years. See detailed review.

BEST SMART LOCK FOR RENTERS: YALE APPROACH LOCK WITH WI-FI
Yale Approach is easy to install without replacing your existing lock and key, making it ideal for renters. It uses a Wi-Fi bridge for remote access and works with Alexa, Google, and Samsung, though not with Apple Home. Auto-lock and auto-unlock features are included, and the keypad (optional) supports fingerprints, but is large and visibly prominent on the door.

BEST FINGERPRINT SMART LOCK: YALE ASSURE LOCK 2 TOUCH
Yale Assure 2 Touch is quick and dependable for fingerprint unlocking, with a backup code option and support for Apple Home. Swappable modules provide Wi-Fi or Z-wave functionality for integration with Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings. Auto-unlock works but may sometimes be slightly delayed. Battery life depends on the chosen module. Read more.

BEST SMART LOCK THAT WORKS WITH APPLE HOME KEY: SCHLAGE ENCODE PLUS
The Encode Plus is a robust smart lock with Home Key support, allowing iPhone or Apple Watch tap-to-unlock. Thread connectivity strengthens battery life and connection stability. It is expensive and lacks Matter support but remains the leading Home Key choice. Setup is user-friendly through the Apple Home app.

BEST SMART LOCK THAT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE A SMART LOCK: LEVEL LOCK PRO
Level Lock Pro integrates smart technology into the classic lock design, fitting seamlessly and leaving no visible branding. It supports Home Key, Matter-over-Thread, and several access methods, but is expensive and installation can be tricky on older doors. Auto-unlock is available but can occasionally be unreliable. If you want premium features combined with minimalist looks, Level Lock Pro excels.

BEST SMART LEVER LOCK: AQARA SMART LOCK U300
For lever-style doors, especially interiors or garages, Aqara U300 replaces old levers with a fingerprint reader, keypad, and Apple Home Key support. Thread connectivity enables up to 10 months of battery life. While great for exterior/interior use, it’s rather bulky and comes only in black or silver. Passage mode is temporary and there is no permanent setting yet.

BEST SMART LOCK THAT’S ALSO A VIDEO DOORBELL: EUFY FAMILOCK S3 MAX
Eufy’s S3 Max combines a 2K video doorbell and smart lock, with palm unlock, keypad, keyway, and app support. Local storage, no video subscription requirements, and support for facial recognition with Eufy HomeBase enhance its functionality. Battery life is about five months due to the integrated video system. See more.

BEST FACIAL RECOGNITION SMART LOCK: LOCKLY VISAGE
Lockly Visage is the first lock for homes with facial recognition unlocking, as well as fingerprint, key, keypad, and Home Key support. Facial unlock is fast and works reliably from the front. Data remains on the device, enhancing privacy. The keypad is small and sometimes hard to see but various smart home platforms are supported.

Other Smart Locks to Consider
Several other models, including Eufy E30, U-tec Bolt Fingerprint Matter, Schlage Encode Wifi, Aqara U50 and U100, Yale Assure SL with Matter, and SwitchBot Lock Pro, provide a range of features like Thread, Matter, Wi-Fi, and various access methods. Their design, integration, and cost vary so you can find a perfect fit for your home needs and platform compatibility.

What’s Coming Next and Currently Testing
Soon, more options with facial recognition, palm unlock, ultra-wideband unlocking, and even more robust Matter/Thread support will hit the market. Upcoming devices from SwitchBot, Yale, U-tec, Schlage, Aqara, Wyze, and TCL will bring new secure, convenient features and compatibility with the latest smart home standards.
