The S26 phones feel awfully familiar. Samsung’s latest Galaxy S flagships, the S26 and S26 Plus, continue a trend of subtle improvements rather than bold innovation. In contrast, the company’s Flip and Fold devices have received more significant hardware upgrades in recent years, setting them apart in the crowded smartphone market.
Spec Refreshes Without Major Innovation
The Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus introduce only minor hardware changes. Although the S26 now features a bigger battery and the S26 Plus boasts faster wireless charging, these enhancements are more incremental than revolutionary. Both devices come equipped with new chipsets, which should provide better performance, but the improvements are subtle. Notably, Samsung has not included magnetic Qi2 wireless charging in these models, falling behind Google in this area. This could disappoint users who expected a more substantial hardware leap.
Privacy Display and Feature Gaps
While the Galaxy S26 Ultra benefits from Samsung’s innovative privacy display, this standout feature is missing from the smaller S26 models. As a result, the S26 and S26 Plus seem to carry on the line’s tradition of minor spec refreshes. Despite these small tweaks, overall user experience remains much the same as their predecessors. In summary, Samsung’s approach for these models focuses on safe updates rather than pushing boundaries, which some fans may find underwhelming.
