As of December 31, 2025, the Switch sold an impressive 155.37 million units since its launch in 2017. In comparison, the Nintendo DS, released in 2004, achieved 154.02 million units sold. These numbers clearly highlight the Switch’s massive popularity and ongoing success in the gaming industry.

In November, Nintendo reported that the Switch and DS sales were nearly identical, signaling a tight competition. However, the anticipated holiday sales period gave the Switch the edge it needed to overtake the DS. The company previously stated they would continue offering the original model while moving forward with new projects.
