Luxury smartphone brand Vertu on Thursday unveiled a foldable phone powered by an AI agent that connects with enterprise software and coordinates workflows. The company is targeting executives who manage business operations and communications on the move.

Called the Alphafold, the foldable smartphone starts at $6,880 for the calfskin version. Higher-end models feature bespoke finishes including alligator leather, 18K gold, and natural diamond accents, along with customized detailing. This continues Vertu’s long-standing strategy of positioning its phones as luxury status symbols aimed at affluent buyers. The company told TechCrunch that its highest-end standard model is currently priced at $46,800, with further customization options available. The Alphafold comes powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor and offers an 8.05-inch foldable display plus a 6.53-inch outer screen. It supports a 6,500mAh battery and satellite communication capabilities.

Vertu’s Alphafold also features a triple rear camera setup with 50-megapixel primary and ultrawide cameras, as well as a 5-megapixel telephoto lens. The phone’s hinge is constructed using metal, titanium, and carbon-fiber, rated for up to 650,000 folds. The device begins shipping this week in a limited batch of 115 units, reaching major markets including the U.S.

A key feature of Alphafold is the Hermes Agent, built on the open-source Hermes project by Nous Research. This AI agent can connect to enterprise systems such as ERP and CRM, enabling users to coordinate approvals, scheduling, sales tracking, travel planning, and operational reporting via natural-language prompts. Vertu stated that its Phone-to-ERP and VPS deployments will be customized for each client, with prices varying according to integration needs.

Alphafold can route requests across multiple AI models including OpenAI’s GPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, and several open-source models. It integrates with over 80 apps and dozens of native phone functions for seamless cross-platform workflow management. Most AI features in other smartphones focus on consumer-level tools, such as voice assistants and image editing, while Vertu aims to deliver enterprise-oriented workflows.

Vertu emphasizes security with a privacy-focused architecture and a proprietary A5 security chip. This chip isolates authentication keys, biometric data, and sensitive enterprise information from the main operating system. Data can be processed directly on the device, ensuring confidential information stays local. When prompts are sent externally to AI models, they are redacted or tokenized, increasing privacy. However, while Vertu has highlighted these security measures, independent third-party audits and certifications are still forthcoming. The brand has committed to public updates as the security process matures.

Vertu’s previous device, Agent Q, marked its first foray into AI-powered foldables, but according to CEO Molly Ma, Alphafold represents a major step forward. Improvements in memory, automation, and app integration are notable advancements in the new launch.

Foldable phones remain a niche globally, with about 20 million units shipped in 2025, making up under 2% of global smartphone shipments. Despite their higher average prices—nearly three times those of regular phones—there is optimism that the larger displays of foldables will eventually maximize AI-agent driven productivity. Still, enterprise smartphone adoption for AI features lags behind computers, with ecosystem integration and device management remaining the main factors for purchasing decisions in businesses.
